In Sanskrit, The Sacral Chakra is Svadhistana = One’s Own Place.
Your sacral chakra governs creativity, intimacy, passion, pleasure, freedom, sensuality, desire, procreation, movement, wonder and imagination. It’s energetically located in the lower abdomen. It also governs your bladder, bowels, sexual organs, womb, the fluid systems of the body (ie urinary), the lower back: sacroiliac and lumbar spine, kidneys, hips and lower abdomen. This feminine energy centre is your emotional and pleasure centre and needs attention if you are feeling depressive, tired or moody. Notice when you bloat. It often occurs when you’re afraid or stressed. Trauma can block the very personal and powerful energy of this chakra.
The sacral chakra is connected to creation in life and is a powerful reminder of what the human body is capable of, has an enormous effect on all women, and is generationally charged. All the eggs a woman will ever carry form in her ovaries while she is a four-month-old fetus in the womb of her mother. This means your cellular life as an egg begins in the womb of your grandmother and your grandmothers experiences imprinted onto your mother and you. We know that cells hold memories from the stories shared by transplant patients who tell stories of memories, cravings, and incidents that happened to the organ donor that they are now experiencing. Think about your mother and grandmother and what you know of their life experiences - can you feel any of that carried within you?
This chakra is all about connecting to others, accepting change or new experiences, and recognizing pleasure and passion in life. What I call our Secret Societies of Shame live in this chakra. Shame is the lowest vibration of all of our emotions, and releasing it changes everything. Negative patterns in relationships, being numb to pleasure, and guilt and trauma are all the result of shame. Many women hold a lot of emotion and trauma energetically, physically, it’s extra weight. This is also true with men.
This chakra holds an essential key to decision-making for many women. When it’s blocked, making decisions becomes a challenge. Being able to feel the yes in a decision in our sacral chakra lets us know if it’s right for us. When our chakra energy is out of alignment, some of our decisions may no longer be in harmony with our truth.
This chakra has been affected if you have been told that you are not creative, to stop imagining things, or to stop daydreaming. Your imagination as a child was fully connected to source energy and you can reignite this connection.
Give yourself permission to question and release the beliefs you were raised with if you feel like they foster shame or guilt in you. Beliefs, especially those about the body or sex, keep you hidden in fears and untruths that belong to others. If you have experienced sexual abuse, your sacral chakra can be healed and you will be lighter and happier.
Your energy can never be destroyed, but it can be changed, transformed and elevated through action and love. Your energetic path of the past is simply that the past. With new information, your habits, consciousness and epigenetics (gene expression) can be changed by improving the energy that moves through you. Engaging with your sacral chakra is essential to begin improving your energetic pattern.
Journaling will open your understanding of any hidden blocks you may have in your sacral chakra. You are far more powerful than any experience in your life. Write to become aware of your blocks and to release them. Burn the pages you write on to fuel your new energy! Awareness about your chakras will change your perception about who you are, how powerful you are, and how important it is to get into harmony with the energy that flows through you.
Years ago, Julia Cameron wrote a book called The Artist’s Way with a technique called the “Morning Pages” which are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. They are not meant to be art, or even “writing.” They are simply to release anything in your mind. They provide me clarity and comfort, and provide a meditative morning moment with coffee! Putting a pen to paper is a soothing ritual I love in the morning.
When you want to lean in and learn about your sacral chakra, write your thoughts about intimacy, sensuality, creativity, movement, freedom, sovereignty, procreation, desire, awe, wonder and imagination. If you want a more structured way to write, I invite you to explore the questions in my Sacral Chakra Guidebook, in the Champagne Chakra 30 Day Guided Journal Series. The goal of these journals is to open your awareness so that you can elevate through the natural sequence of frequencies in your body.
Guided journaling helps make you a keen observer of your spirit, opening the doors of awareness and perception so that you can be more of who you desire to be. It is also an action step that helps you sort out and move towards the actions you must take to create the life of your desires. There are journals in this series for each chakra, as well as journals specific to areas where many people get stuck in life. Journaling will help you through the areas you are stuck.
These journals are a guidebook, with instructions and information to help you with the topic of each journal. Like having a private coaching session in each journal! Perfect for yourself and as a gift for a friend so you can learn practice together. Also makes a really fun book club experience!
Light a candle, get your favourite pen, and answer the questions each day for 30 days. Take yourself on an amazing date, and ask these questions as if you were sitting across the table from the love of your life. And then, do just that, become the love of your life. The more you love you, the more love you have for your life and the people you share it with.
I invite you to like my Facebook page where I share tips and answer questions for you!
